Morris Shrewd Signing

The 24-year-old former England Under-21 player becomes Peter Reid's first signing at Elland Road. Duberry and Morris both started their careers at Stamford Bridge and remain close, even after Duberry moved to Elland Road in July 1999.

Morris has had his off-field problems, and Duberry says a move to Leeds would be perfect for him to leave those problems behind.

"Jody and me are good mates on and off the field, I've always had a good relationship with Jody from when I was at Chelsea and it's good to have my best mate at the same club." Michael told Leedsunited.com.

"Jody falls into the same category with the likes of Jonathan Woodgate and Lee Bowyer and a lot of other players that get bad press. You are just tagged with this label and Jody is just the same as anyone, he needs to let his football do the talking, people need to give him a chance and stop harassing him.

"He's a quality player at a quality club and the combination will do well, everyone will welcome him here and it's more competition. Jody will relish that competition and the chance to play in the Premiership again which is all he's ever wanted to do."

Morris said: "I am delighted to be joining Leeds United. It's a great move for me. Obviously everyone is aware that Leeds United are trying to rebuild for the future and I hope I can play my part. I am looking forward to doing so".

He has signed a two-year contract with the club and is expected to play a part in the friendly against York City on Wednesday.

Chelsea legend Kerry Dixon also believes Leeds are about to make a shrewd signing.

"In the current climate Jody's an excellent signing," said Dixon.

"He's got something to prove and he'll go to Leeds looking to show Chelsea what they're missing by not keeping him on. He's a combative midfielder. He'll give his all for the cause and will give 100 per cent every game. I think the best is yet to come from Jody and I think he'll shine in Leeds colours.

"He's a player of immense potential who could still go on to play for England. If Leeds do it right I'm sure they can get the best out of Jody. I think he has calmed down and learnt from what has happened off the field in the past. I don't envisage him causing any problems at Leeds. He'll just get on with playing football."
