McKenzie: Must Do Better

Chairman McKenzie said that, despite selling the likes of Kewell, Fowler, Ferdinand and Woodgate, Leeds still have a wage bill of £40m, one of the highest in the Premiership.

And McKenzie wants a major improvement from a squad he thinks still has "huge assets" but only finished 15th last season. He told The Sun:

"Clearly we would like to see a better return from the huge assets we have at our disposal.

"The reality is that we still have one of the highest-paid teams in the division - which sees two thirds of the club’s income paid out in wages of around £40m.

"We’ve invested heavily and do have wage bills significantly higher than those of Southampton and Everton - yet they finished considerably higher than us in the League."

And after Leeds' pre-season was marred by brawls at York and Burnley, McKenzie wants the United players to improve their behaviour on the pitch.

"When I look at the indiscipline and indulgent behaviour off the field during the previous era at the club I can’t help but feel that was reflected on the pitch."
