According to The Sun, McClaren was on the verge of signing Viduka at the end of January when he was on his way to the Middlesbrough for talks. But in a late change of mind, he turned back and vowed to stay on with Leeds.
Serie A side Roma have made Viduka, 28, their top target and hope they can land him for a about £4m.
