Matteo Injury Blow For Leeds

Matteo went over on his ankle in training on Friday and it was initially feared he would be out for up to three weeks with ligament damage.

But the skipper has responded to treatment over the weekend and may now be fit for Saturday's Elland Road clash with Birmingham City.

Peter Reid, who is likely to ask Gary Kelly to take over the captain's armband, said: "We are hoping he will be fit for next week, but we are taking it day by day."

Matteo's absence will give Didier Domi an opportunity to come in at left-back, having not yet started a first team game since his move in the summer.

Reid has been pleased with Domi's progress in the reserves and says he's just about right to come into the side tonight after a slow start to his United career.

"His fitness levels were down but this week has been a very, very good week for him," said Reid.

"He was outstanding in the second half of the reserves game against Manchester United. Since then he's been a lot brighter in training and feels a lot stronger now.

"If there's a job to be done on that left hand side whether it be at left-wing or left-back he'll be able to do it for us."

Recent capture Roque Junior is set to make his debut as partner to Zoumana Camara at the heart of the defence.

Meanwhile, Nigel Martyn's sale to Everton means that 18-year-old goalkeeper Scott Carson will appear on the bench for the first time.
