Matteo, Bridges Back For Hull

Last updated : 25 July 2003 By Kevin Markey

Matteo has not featured in any of the two pre-season games against Bristol City and York City after going over on his ankle in training. This, after undergoing a knee operation at the end of last season.

The ex- Scottish international is set to return to full training on Monday and should lead United out at the KC Stadium.

This game should also see the return of Michael Bridges who has been out since last December after rupturing an Achilles in the game against Malaga in the UEFA Cup at Elland Road.

Meanwhile, Peter Reid is refusing to confirm whether David Batty will start the new season against Newcastle, one of his former clubs. The 34-year-old has featured in both pre-season games so far but still appears to be short of match fitness.

Reid said: "You know better than I do how long he went without a game, so it's now a matter of getting him through the matches and through training.
"He played again for nearly an hour against York and was a bit stiff but he is improving. If I can get games out of him for the club it will be a massive bonus. It's good to see him on the football pitch."
