Marques Decides Against Move To Oldham

The Oldham Evening Chronicle report that the Portuguese defender was due to join Ronnie Moore’s squad over the weekend, but he decided against a move at the last minute.

The Latics and Leeds had agreed terms for a one-month loan when Marques said he would not commit himself without consulting his agent. The deal then fell through.

Marques, 28, was born in Angola and joined Leeds from Portuguese side Maritimo during the close-season but the centre-half has failed to establish himself at Elland Road and his only appearance came at right-back, against Oldham in the Carling Cup first round.

Moore said: “The deal was done with Leeds after we spoke to their manager, Kevin Blackwell, and sorted out all the details. I’ve seen Marques play and he’s a decent defender, but he must have been advised not to sign for us."

Marques could have featured against Brentford yesterday, but Oldham recalled Danny Hall to the team instead.
