Forest won five and drew one of their six league games during April. They then beat Yeovil 3-2 on May 3 to gain promotion, taking 19 points from their last seven games.
The other contenders for the award were Bournemouth's Kevin Bond and former Huddersfield caretaker boss Gerry Murphy.
