Manchester City, meanwhile, lost at home to Southampton, and are now only 2 points clear of Leeds.

Eddie Gray told the YEP: "We can't bother about the other teams. There's still a few games to go and a few of the teams still have each other to play but it's all about what we do.The players know how important it is to stay focused on what we are doing.

"We haven't got another Arsenal to play and I still think we've got a chance. We're not setting any targets or anything like that. Things can change so quickly anyway. We'll just concentrate on the Portsmouth game. We cannot look any further than that at this stage. You can look at the fixture list until you're blue in the face, but it won't change anything.

"Arsenal play Tottenham next week and if Arsenal win and we beat Portsmouth, we are only three points behind Spurs. All around the clubs will be thinking about Leeds and whether or we can put a run together and catch them out."

A boost for the team is that there is no fresh injury worries ahead of Sunday's clash with Portsmouth.
