His club NEC Nijmegen have stated that they are open to the possibility of selling Limbombe but they will not be forced into a cut-price deal.
The Dutch club moved to address Limbombe’s situation over the weekend after leaving him out of a league game against Ajax amid intense speculation about a move to England.
NEC accused the Belgian winger of being “insufficiently focused” ahead of the match as talks between Nijmegen and Leeds continued.
United bid £1.5m for him at the start of this month but are yet to increase their offer.
However, they remain interested in the former Racing Genk player who scored 14 times as NEC cruised to the Dutch second division title last season.
“There is no concrete offer. If we can get capital which we can reinvest then we do that. If it’s not at the level we want, he continues to play.”
Limbombe has another two years on his contract at NEC but the winger appears to be pushing for a move to the UK.
Team-mates of his at Nijmegen were quoted over the weekend as saying that they expected Limbombe to join Leeds before next week’s transfer deadline.
United owner Massimo Cellino has been tracking Limbombe throughout the summer but despite fresh discussions between Leeds and NEC last week, the Italian’s attention has been more heavily focused on a bid to sign Watford’s Fernando Forestieri.
Leeds have a deal in place with Watford and are ready to pay £3m for Forestieri but the forward has attracted attention from other clubs and is yet to commit to the move.
