Leeds to appeal Viduka red card

The Australian striker was dismissed for allegedly elbowing Andy Hessenthaler, but Venables feels the Gills player boss feigned injury.

"We're going to appeal. I feel very strongly about it," Venables said in todays Sun newspaper.

"Hessenthaler went down but he had a look up first. If you get a good wallop, it just hits you - you are pole-axed.

"I once broke a cheekbone as a player and when you're hurt, you don't go down and then start screaming.

"For me, their manager's behaviour is out of order. Gillingham's own player, Mamady Sidibe, even said Viduka should not have been sent off.

"For the manager then to come back and say he should have been, is so out of order.

"I'm very disappointed in him, because he's been a terrific guy for the game. He's earned a lot of respect for the job he's done at Gillingham and rightly so. But I don't think there's any place for what happened on Saturday."
