The required paperwork did not arrive in time for him to play his first competitive game for the club. Gavin Rothery stepped in for him.

The game itself kicked-off late after the Wigan team bus got lost driving towards the stadium.

Leeds had the better of the chances in a poor game with midfielder Gylfi Einarsson standing out for United.

Chances were limited in a dull encounter. It was certainly nothing like the cup encounter between the 1st teams recently. Dan Harding and Nick Gray had efforts on goal and it took Wigan over an hour to create their first real opening when Jonathan Smith tested Whites keeper Ben Smith.

Leeds' best effort came in the dying seconds when Tomi Ameobi almost got on the end of a low cross from Steve McKeown.

Leeds: Smith, Madden, Harding (McKeown h/t), Walton, Marques, Einarssoon (Hird 74), Rothery, Gray, Moore, Howson, Pugh (Ameobi 80).
