Leeds poised to sign Brenden Aaronson from RB Salzburg

Leeds United have a deal in place to sign RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson, 90min understands.

Jesse Marsch's side staved off relegation on the final day of the Premier League season by beating Brentford 2-1 - a result that condemned Burnley to life in the Championship after they lost by the same scoreline to Newcastle.

With their top-flight status now secure, Leeds are able to push on with their plans for next season, and 90min understands that a deal is already agreed for United States international Aaronson.

The 21-year-old was the subject of two bids from Leeds in the January transfer window, though RB Salzburg - who made it through to the knockout stages of this season's Champions League - were unwilling to negotiate a move midway through the campaign.

But Leeds' interest never waned and talks have been ongoing about a move to Elland Road ever since. Indeed, it's 90min's understanding that Marsch is a huge fan of Aaronson's and he actively pushed for a deal to be concluded as soon as he was appointed as a Marcelo Bielsa's successor.

A £20m move is now close to completion after confirmation of Leeds' survival, with Aaronson likely to be an early mover in the summer transfer window.

Leeds are also set to hold talks with star duo Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips over their long-term futures at the club, with both linked with high-profile moves away.

Raphinha is a target for Barcelona among others, while Phillips has been interesting Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester United. Leeds are hopeful the pair will sign new contracts, but know both will need a substantial pay rise to reflect their lofty standings in the game.
