Leeds Defer Boss' Jury Service

Blackwell was summoned to appear in court from Tuesday, only five days before Leeds take part in what is being billed as the world's richest football game.

However, Leeds have managed to defer the jury summons until May 31 to enable them to focus on the push for a Premiership return.

In an unprecedented move, it's the second time this year Blackwell has deferred the summons for jury service.

The law states that you can only defer once and must state good reasons for doing so, but Blackwell had already asked the Jury Central Summoning Bureau for deferral earlier this year after being requested to appear on August 18.

Blackwell said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "Obviously I'm pleased it's all sorted out so I can concentrate on preparing for the game against Watford.

"When the summons came through it was passed on to the club solicitor who has dealt with it on my behalf.

"The result is that they have given me 14 days special dispensation. These are the sort of distractions you can do without, but thankfully it's all been sorted out."

Blackwell's original call for August would have clashed with the opening weeks of the 2006-07 football season.
