But Krasner has indicated that the ball is in Gray's court and they would employ him as manager.
"Whether he will be here at the start of next season is up to Eddie," Krasner told BBC Radio Four. "He's got to decide certain things regarding his qualifications.
"He doesn't have the official badge at this time and I don't think we will get an extension into next season. Eddie is doing more than a decent job as manager of Leeds and has always been part of the club. We will sit down at the end of the season and have a chat."
Should Leeds fail to avoid relegation, there will be no such obstacle to Gray taking the permanent job as the restrictions do not exist in the other leagues.
