King, 25, returns to relegated Nottingham Forest after the last game against Rotherham on Sunday but the striker wants a permanent stay at Elland Road.
"I'm here until the season but where we go from there is totally up to Forest," King told BBC Radio Leeds.
"The boss Kevin Blackwell knows I'd like to stay but it's down to Forest as I've another three years on my deal."
