Just Call Domi Mr Versatile

Domi was completing the second half of his medical at Elland Road this morning and, after agreeing personal terms yesterday, should be officially unveiled as a United player within the next 24 hours.

"Versatility is a good word when it comes to football and Didier will certainly give us that," said Reid to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"He can play at left-back or left midfield but let's get him in and get him settled before we start deciding where he's going to play for us.

"There were a few loose ends that needed finalising in terms of his medical today but yesterday's talks went great and we've been able to move the deal forward quite quickly."

Domi is a tough tackler with plenty of attacking ideas and he found the English game very much to his liking making an impact with his pace and commitment. Success in France included winning the French league and cup with PSG and then playing in the side that lost the Cup Winners' Cup to Barcelona.

He fell out with Newcastle and boss Bobby Robson in the early months of the 2000/01 season and went AWOL in France. That prompted the club to sell him back to PSG in January 2001. He played 70 games for the Magpies, scoring four goals.

Provided there are no last-minute hitches, Domi will meet up with his new team-mates tomorrow before joining the United squad on their flight to Dublin on Friday.

The final leg of The Whites pre-season programme will see them taking on former boss David O'Leary's Aston Villa side on Saturday before meeting either St Patrick's Athletic or Shelbourne On Sunday.

Ironically, Domi's first competitive action in a Leeds shirt could come against his former employers when Newcastle visit Elland Road for the first game of the new season on Sunday, August 17.

The Frenchman will be desperate to start that game.
