Pennant, sent off in midweek for throwing a punch during the England U-21 match against Croatia, should have recovered from a knock picked up in the same game.

Leeds manager Peter Reid joked: "He hurt his hand, no, hurt his thigh, in the U-21 international but he should be okay. I have had a chat with the boy and told him I want him to come here and enjoy his football and do his talking on the pitch.

"He has got the ability to go past people and should give us better balance on the right. It will be a tough one for him, I don't think they will welcome him with open arms at White Hart Lane."

Reid is continuing to pursue a couple of new signings before the transfer window closes on 31 August.

He confirmed one target is Soloman Olembe, the Cameroon international left-back who is currently on Marseille's books

He will also make a decision next week on Carlos Cuellar, a central defender who has been on trial from Spanish Second Division side Numancia.

"He has done smashing and we will decide on it next week,'' added the Leeds manager.
