Is Batty finished?

Batty's continued absence from the team was discussed at Friday's AGM - at which Ridsdale was comfortably re-elected.

Ridsdale told the meeting that former Leeds boss David O'Leary would not play Batty either.

"All I can tell you is that Terry Venables has decided that David is no longer capable of playing at the top level. That is unanimous because of the problems with his knees that he has suffered. David O'Leary also said the same thing at a board meeting in May and I respect the views of Terry and the coaching staff," said Ridsdale.

"When David Batty signed following his medical - in December 1998 - we took the view then that he could play. He played quite a lot of games for us and but for the state of his knees from the wear and tear of many years of playing football, clearly we believe he would still be playing.

"Both David O'Leary and Terry Venables and the current coaching staff say now that David is not currently capable of playing."
