Italy 0-0 Republic of Ireland

The Irish achieved a highly creditable draw with their Italian counterparts in Bisceglie, southern Italy this afternoon, with goalkeeper Darren Randolph outstanding.

The Charlton Athletic player made two fine saves to keep the game scoreless.

Ireland even had chances to win, but Diarmuid O’Carroll, the Celtic youngster introduced at half-time, was unable to finish off their best chance.

Leeds' Andy Keogh, who scored on the first game of his loan spell at Bury at the weekend, caused problems with his strength and pace.

Both sides will play a second game in Corato in two days’ time.

Keogh has been recalled by Leeds from the team in Bari as he is required by his loan club Bury for a game this week.
