'Insufficient Evidence' Clears Ref

The London referee avoided a possible suspension after a Football Association hearing ruled the allegation against him, made after the 1-1 draw with Gillingham on September 29, was not proven.

McDermid was charged with using abusive and/or insulting language after Leeds, who had Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol red-carded in the match at Priestfield, lodged a complaint with the FA.

McDermid had earlier banned Wise from the dugout after a half-time altercation between the pair.

Wise incurred a three-match touchline suspension and a £5k fine for his role in a volatile afternoon, but McDermid escaped punishment after the FA decided there was insufficient evidence to support the charge.
