The Scotland international was set to join United but, however, veteran striker Teddy Sheringham has received an injury and Hammer's manager Alan Pardew now wants him to stay.
"Don Hutchison was going to go out on loan for a month but I have held him back because he is going to be involved now, with Teddy also missing," said Pardew to the club's official website.
"We were looking to loan him for a month to get him up to speed, but that doesn't suit us now."
