Hughes Double Blow For Leeds

The Leeds utility man, making his first start since injuring a knee on February 12, had a penalty awarded against him for handball despite his protests, later upheld by television replays, that the ball had hit him on the nose.

The spot-kick sparked Vale's first comeback on their way to snatching a 3-3 draw that severely dented United's promotion hopes.

Hughes was also yellow-carded and, because it was his tenth caution of the season, he automatically picks up a two-match ban and will miss the games against Walsall and Brighton.

Ironically, Leeds might have been better off if Hughes had been sent off because they could have then appealed but they are not allowed to do so against a yellow.
