All three of them played under him at either at Leeds or Sheffield Wednesday.

Wilkinson says in The Sun: “Paul, Gordon or Gary? Any one of them would be an ideal choice.

“And despite what some people think, Leeds are not a lost cause by a long chalk.

“There are a lot of games left and a lot of points to be won and, whoever they choose as Peter Reid’s successor, has a real chance to get them up that Premiership table.

“When I look at Paul, Gordon and Gary I see a mixture of enthusiasm, passion, a genuine love of the game, determination, strength of character and resilience.

“Whoever goes into the situation at Leeds right now is going to need all of those qualities. And these boys have them in abundance.

“Whichever one of them Leeds decide on, they will have made an excellent choice.”
