The striker has already won over the fans after a superb debut on the left flank against Newcastle.

Sakho, who has joined Leeds on a one-year loan deal from Marseille, set up Mark Viduka's goal against Newcastle and caused problems throughout for The Magpie's with his pace and clever skills.

Sakho said: "There were clubs in France looking at me who said they were interested. I could have signed for a lot of clubs but I wanted to come to England even if it was on loan.

"A lot of my friends play here and are always talking about England, I played for France's U-21s with a few of them like Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka.

"They keep saying the crowds here are fantastic and I wanted to know more. Everyone knows me in France but I wanted to get to know what it is like in England."

Sakho was delighted with his debut and is hoping to earn a permanent £2m move to Leeds if he continues the way he is.

He said: "One day I would like to be pushing for a place in the national side, but the most important thing is Leeds. I want to have a good season and continue my adventure in England."
