Fleetwood v Leeds: Guide

Last updated : 10 August 2016 By .

Key battle: Uwe Rosler v Garry Monk: A former Leeds United head coach against the current incumbent – and neither man will want to lose.

Rosler has a score to settle with Leeds after his short and sour 12-game spell in charge but Monk needs a result having watched his side start the season with a bad defeat to QPR on Sunday.

In reality the league is a priority for both of them but there is plenty of pride at stake this evening.

Key man: Bobby Grant: The striker came up with 11 goals last season and that tally was a factor in keeping Fleetwood Town in League One.

The club won only 12 games and avoided relegation by a five-point margin, helped by a final-day win over Crewe Alexandra in which Grant scored the opener.

Fleetwood need another decent haul from him.

Last time: First-ever meeting between the clubs.

Expert view: Phil Hay says: “With a win behind them, Leeds would have looked like a shoo-in to make it through this tie.

But Sunday’s defeat to QPR has put immediate pressure on Monk’s squad and much as Monk will be judged on United’s league form, a concerted response is needed tonight.

For all that the trip to Loftus Road was gruelling, Leeds have the resources to beat Fleetwood and should see them off inside 90 minutes.“
