Five named in England squad

Eriksson has recalled Jonathan Woodgate and Lee Bowyer to his squad and they join Leeds team-mates Paul Robinson, Danny Mills and Alan Smith for the friendly game, but their is no place for out-of-favour keeper Nigel Martyn.

Defender Woodgate has represented his country once before against Bulgaria in June 1999, whilst midfielder Bowyer is in line to win his first full England cap.

Smith has already won a couple of England caps and is almost virtually guaranteed a game against the Portuguese with just three strikers called up for the 20-man squad.

Robinson was named alongside West Ham United's David James as the two goalkeepers in the squad.

The England coach has named a smaller squad than normal because he hopes to make fewer substitutions during the game compared to previous friendlies.

Full squad:

Goalkeepers:
James (West Ham), Robinson (Leeds).

Defenders: Mills (Leeds), Ashley Cole (Arsenal), Bridge (Southampton), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Southgate (Middlesbrough), Woodgate (Leeds).

Midfielders: Beckham (Man Utd), Butt (Man Utd), Dyer (Newcastle), Sinclair (West Ham), Murphy (Liverpool), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), J Cole (West Ham), Bowyer (Leeds).

Forwards: Owen (Liverpool), Heskey (Liverpool), Smith (Leeds).
