Matteo has two years left on his current Leeds contract but could move after the club's relegation from the Premiership.
"He's one of a number of players we are interested in," Moyes told Everton's official website. "We are keeping an eye on his situation."
Matteo began his career at neighbours Liverpool before joining The Whites.
