Even Steven It's Thompson As Assistant

The YEP report that Leeds United’s boss remain more hopeful that the club are finally on the verge of a deal.

Redfearn has been rumoured to be after Thompson since taking on the head coach’s job at Leeds last month but Thompson is part of the coaching staff at Huddersfield and a dispute over compensation between the two teams has prevented the 50-year-old from joining United.

Thompson is understood to favour a switch to Elland Road and an opportunity to work with Redfearn, someone he played alongside as a youngster at Bolton Wanderers in the 1980s.

Town’s position is believed to have softened this week, raising the prospect of an agreement, and Redfearn said: “We’re getting to that point now where hopefully something will give.

“It has dragged on but it’s dragged on for the right reasons – because we’ve done it properly.

“We’ve tried to do the right thing and go through the front door. The club’s been in discussions with another club.”

Redfearn has worked without a number two for all of his five games in charge, relying on goalkeeping coach Neil Sullivan and fitness coach Matt Pears for assistance.

Even Michael Tonge appeared to be advising Redfearn on the touchline in the 2-0 win over Derby last weekend.
