Double Tonic For Reid

Bridges, out since snapping his Achilles tendon in December, has been pestering boss Peter Reid for a game since proving his fitness in pre-season training. Reid has so far taken a cautious approach, but has been impressed by the players attitude.

"Michael has spent a long time out with injuries. He is very eager to get some football in and we have had to protect him from himself at times," said Reid. Bridges has a Premiership record of 19 goals in 39 starts for The Whites.

Skipper Matteo, meanwhile, only resumed full training on Monday after undergoing knee surgery at the end of last season, so Reid will make an assessment of his fitness before deciding whether to include him in the squad.
The 29-year-old skipper is a key member of the team with his versatility to play in either defence or midfield.

Lucas Radebe, who has also had a knee operation, is not yet ready to be considered.
