Déjà Vu For Eddie

Gray sold Seaman to Peterborough for £5k in 1982 during his first spell in charge at Elland Road.

Now he may be forced to do the same to Robinson when the transfer window opens in January.

Gray said in The Sun: “I know Paul loves Leeds but players want to be performing at the highest level.

“Paul is still only 23 but he’s been in the limelight for a few years now and he’s already a top-notch goalkeeper.

“I always expect the highest level of performance from Paul because I know the ability he’s got.

“It was the same with Seaman all those years ago. The difference is that, while Paul got the chance to establish himself with Leeds, David didn’t, so he left.

“It wasn’t easy letting David go because I knew how much he loved this club.

“But, at that time, we had two promising young keepers in David and John Lukic and one had to go for financial reasons.”

It appears that Robinson is the No 1 choice to replace Seaman, now 40, at Manchester City, giving an ironic twist to events.

All depends, of course, on what happens between now and January 19th.
