Chapuis made only one Premiership appearance, as a substitute, and he appeared twice in the Carling Cup.
"I found myself with Sakho, Olembe and Domi in the reserve team," said Chapuis. "Zoumana Camara joined us from time to time.
"The new coach Eddie Gray clearly stated he was not going to rely on players from France. Why? I don't know."
Chapuis said Antoine Kombouare's presence at Strasbourg was one of the reasons for him opting to join the Stade de la Meinau outfit.
"I greatly favoured Strasbourg rather than Guingamp or Bastia, while the presence of coach Kombouare was important too," the 24-year-old added.
