20-year-old Cousins, who was on loan at Shamrock Rovers last season, was on trial at Drogheda United recently but failed to earn a contract at the Premier Division side.

But the Tallaght youngster has impressed enough to earn a deal at Station Road, where he will try and help Kildare, the league’s newest club, into the Premier Division.

Cousins, the brother of former Shamrock Rovers and Liverpool star Tony, captained an Irish side to a youth Olympics title in Spain in 2001.
