Chris Wood's Demeanour

Last updated : 16 August 2017 By Phil Hay

This is how it invariably goes: a leading player attracts big-money bids and suddenly all eyes are on every aspect of his performance.

No doubt that Wood should have put away at least one of his one-on-one chances against Preston and Fulham but it is simplistic to see those chances in the context of a player whose head has turned.

For all that he wracked up 30 goals last season, his record showed a conversion rate of one finish from every three chances and you sense again his touch will return before long.

That said, Wood toiled on Tuesday and was less influential than he needed to be as Leeds tried to turn the screw in the second half.

There is a difference between speculation and bids on the table and he can be forgiven if Burnley’s offers for him have planted a seed of doubt in his mind.
