Leeds, then defending First Division champions, went down to a shock 3-0 fourth round defeat in the League Cup during the 1974-75 season, when Chester were in the old Fourth Division.

But boss Jimmy Armfield did go on to take them to the European Cup final in Paris against Bayern Munich.

However, in 1983-4, when ties were played over two legs, Chester won 1-0 at Elland Road before being routed 4-1 on their own patch.

The sides met at Elland Road in the Carling Cup first round the season before last, Eirik Bakke's first goal for two and a half years was enough to take Leeds through.
