Champagne Banned From The Boardroom

The chairman said: " I believe that change and savings should start at the top, so champagne is out at boardroom level and a simple pre-match meal is being served. The money saved is going towards our head groundsman's budget for the pitch. A good team requires a good playing surface and there are some things we cannot skimp on.

" We simply cannot afford to let the stadium deteriorate, otherwise it is penny wise, pound foolish."

Two members of the groundsman's maintenance staff have also been re-employed.
