Bowyer loses England place

Bowyer made his international debut in the recent friendly against Portugal and made the England goal for team-mate Alan Smith.

The shock omission is sure to be a blow to Bowyer who impressed in his first international, after a ban imposed by the FA had kept him waiting for his first full-cap.

However, four other Leeds players are included in the squad named by Eriksson on Sunday evening.

Danny Mills and Jonathan Woodgate are among the defenders named, Paul Robinson is one of three goalkeepers in the 23-man squad, while Alan Smith keeps his place in attack as expected.
