Blackwell was shortlisted for the award after guiding the Whites to three wins and two draws in February, but the award was won by Watford's Adrian Boothroyd, a former coach at Elland Road.

He told the club's official website: "I've been nominated four or five times this season and have never won it and don't want to win it until May.

"You don't want to win it at this time of year because the curse can strike and it'll be a much better award to win at the end of the season because it means you'll probably have done something special.

"I'm delighted to have been nominated so many times though because it shows the level of consistency of the team and if we can keep those results going, I'd like to look forward to winning the big one at the end of the season."
