"He's still very much in my thoughts," said Southgate, after the defender joined the Whites on loan this week.
"He's a good player and a very experienced player. You don't make quick decisions on players with his qualities, so I wouldn't close the door on him.
"We have three good players in the central defensive position, and Chris Riggott on his way back, so we needed Ugo to get competitive games under his belt. He missed the early part of the season with an Achilles injury. And I will be monitoring his performances at Leeds."
