Boocock: Heaven Help Us

Supporters' optimism heading into pre-season has very quickly evaporated following a set of dismal results over the last few weeks which culminated in Sunday's defeat to Eircom League side Shelbourne.

In assessing Leeds' prospects, and summing up the general feeling of the fans, chairman of the Leeds United Supporters' Trust, John Boocock, said: "There doesn't seem to be any fight in them (the players) and nobody seems interested.

"When you're playing pre-season games against lower league sides and you're not even getting a draw, it's very worrying because the players don't appear to be gelling under Peter Reid.

"But the team that was fighting for survival at the end of last season is not that different to the one that is left, and we've a few new additions.

"But it's not as if there's anybody to show off. There's no excitement about this pre-season and there's nothing to build on. It's left me feeling cheesed off.

"The best we could initially hope for was mid-table security, but are we going to even achieve that? I think many fans are facing up to a long, hard season fighting to beat the drop."

"Within six games we could be in deep trouble," assessed Boocock.

"Those first half-dozen matches form the bedrock of the points that will take you through the rest of the season, and although we can hope something good happens, I don't think it will.

"I think we will be lucky if we get four points out of the first six matches and then we're facing Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal soon after that, so heaven help us."
