The 56-year-old, who led the Bramall Lane club to two major cup semi-finals, beating Leeds twice on the way, and the Division One play-offs last season, refused to be drawn on the chances of him leaving The Blades.

"I don't comment on speculation," said Warnock. "I'm sure Derek Dooley (chief executive) would say something to me if there was anything to say.

"As far as I'm concerned it's purely speculation."

Sheffield United chairman Robinson also played down any potential interest in Warnock.

Robinson said: "I'm not going to speculate on speculation.

"We don't want to add anything to a story that's not there.

"Sheffield United have got a manager and Leeds United haven't. We are second from top in the table and pushing forward with our long-term plans."
