The former Chelsea chief executive Birch will take over the day to day running of the club and will work closely with Peter Reid.

Reid said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I think the relationship we have will be important. I know Trevor and I'm looking forward to working with him. He did a tremendous job at Chelsea. He's got a track record in what he does and I'm sure he will do a great job here.

"It's all about us winning football matches now. The people in charge will look after the financial side and I know they're working hard to put things right.

"The same goes for us on the football front. We need to start picking up points now to take things forward. The club has had a lot of stick again this week, but we're just getting on with things.

"The players have been brilliant and they're just concentrating on doing what they do."

Meanwhile chairman John McKenzie is looking to focus on new income streams for the club and could step up his work in the Far East and Asia in a bid to attract new funds.
