Beattie Ready For Dug-Out Duty

Beattie, the first-team coach at Leeds United, is expected to occupy the away dug-out area at the iPro Stadium with Monk serving a ban for his dismissal at Bristol City last month.

The former Southampton, Everton & England striker may have to stand alone in the technical area if Clotet’s return from Spain is delayed.

The club granted Monk’s assistant a period of leave to be with his wife but Clotet is hoping to fly back to the UK in time for United’s Championship fixture with Derby (3pm kick-off).

Monk, however, will have to view from the stands after pleading guilty to a Football Association misconduct charge after Leeds’ 1-0 defeat at Ashton Gate on September 27. He and the club accepted a one-match touchline ban and a £2,000 fine.

The former Swansea boss was accused of swearing at match referee Keith Stroud during the closing stages of the game, calling him “a disgrace” in the final minutes of the away defeat.

Beattie, who came to Leeds as Monk’s assistant in the summer, gained experience of management as Accrington Stanley boss in 2013 & 2014 and Monk’s touchline ban will not prevent him from communicating with his backroom team during the game on Saturday.

Beattie will be armed with a radio so he will be able to communicate with Monk at all times but the Whites should be well-drilled anyway as they will have had two weeks of the international break to prepare for the game.

Leeds, who have won five of their last six fixtures in all competitions, are currently 11th in the Championship table with 16 points from 11 games.
