Bates: Poetic Justice

Gillingham chairman Paul Scally commended the League's decision to dock Leeds 15 points and also backed Thursday's verdict to reject the club's appeal. Gillingham need a victory to stand any chance of survival.

Bates said: "It is ironic that, having voted to penalise us, Gillingham find their fate in our hands. It would be more ironic if we are responsible for relegating them. Some might say it was poetic justice.

"I have known Paul Scully for years and was surprised he voted in favour of our 15-point sanction."
