Bates Gets First Leg

One of the league's most experienced officials comes to Leeds on Monday when we welcome Tony Bates from Stoke.

Bates has been a league referee for 12 years, with his first game being on the opening day of the 1996/97 season.

Ironically, he was in charge of Leeds coach Neil McDonald's last match as Carlisle boss when they drew at Walsall.

Bates was one of the English linesmen at Euro '96, which was, of course, held in this country.
