Bakke, Matteo Injury Updates

Bakke was advised by Leeds to rest during the summer after suffering a knee problem in the latter half of last season, but ended up playing for Norway in their European Championship qualifying games against Denmark and Romania, and in a friendly against Finland.

Bakke has been diagnosed with patella tendonitis, and is due to see top U.S. knee surgeon Richard Steadman to learn the extent of the problem. Steadman helped Michael Bridges to return to action following an operation on his serious ankle injury after operating on the striker nearly three years ago.

Bakke had featured in United's pre-season game against York, but it was clear then that he was struggling and has since been receiving intensive treatment at Thorp Arch before being sent to America.

United are also currently sweating on the fitness of skipper Dominic Matteo ahead of Saturday's trip to Spurs.

Matteo picked up an ankle injury in the draw with Newcastle and has been receiving treatment on the injury in a bid to get him fit in time for the game at White Hart Lane.
