Adams Winds Up Whites

The Coventry City boss was a member of the United side that reached the second division play-off final in 1987, but he has wound Leeds up ahead of tomorrow's game by publicly backing Sheffield United's bid for promotion.

Adams says he will be "devastated" if the Blades do not win automatic promotion and promised them that his side will do all they can to help the Bramall Lane men after their 2-0 win against them last weekend.

Whites captain Paul Butler says he was surprised to hear an ex-Leeds player make such a statement and questioned him for the comments he made.

Butler said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "It's very strange to hear an ex-Leeds player say what he's said. Okay, he's said he is a Sheffield United fan but I find it strange that any opposing manager wants to do someone else a favour to help them finish in second spot. It's probably done our gaffer's team talk for him. If any of our lads haven't read what he's said they'll know before the game that he wants to do Neil Warnock a favour.

"I find it strange that an ex-player, who obviously has good connections here and was well thought of by the fans, should say what he has. It's the first time I've come across anything like that.

"Micky Adams has done our talking for us this weekend. If the gaffer gets hold of a copy of the newspaper and pins it up in the dressing room he won't have to say much before the game."
