The Mirror report that Blackwell has been given permission to go for a proven marksman and Blake's future at City is in doubt.
The former Bradford and Burnley striker went to St Andrews in the last transfer window but he is now down the striking order with the permanent arrival of Mikael Forssell from Chelsea.
Blake is apparently keen to move back North and this would be a huge coup for the Whites.
