One Northern Soul by JR Endeacott (Route)

Within a year rioting fans brought shame on the club following the European Cup final, which is where the author, fifteen at the time, begins his story.

Supporting Leeds through some of the darkest days in the clubs history was an onerous task as the team battled away against the backdrop of a hooligan culture and an era of de-industrialisation.

Although grim at times, this short novel, the closest to a club version of Fever Pitch, is worth reading. It captures the mood of the times during the early 80s and serves as a reminder that Premiership football is essential.
