Carver told Sky Sports he was "expecting the worst" after the defeat at Kenilworth Road and warned any new manager appointed by Ken Bates would need "to have a fresh, positive outlook on the team".
"When I saw the opportunity, I thought it was a great opportunity," he said.
"But it goes deeper than that. If you look at our results towards the end of last season, there is something that has not been right there, and that's carried on this season.
"There needs to be a new influx of players at this football club; fresh legs, youth, experience, and it needs looking at."
