Leeds United 2 (Roofe 30, Phillips 47) Queens Park Rangers 0

Leeds United headed into the summer on a winning note as a goal in either half was enough to see off Queens Park Rangers at a sundrenched Elland Road.

Luke Ayling made a welcoming return following four months on the sidelines, whilst 16 year-old Ryan Edmondson was named on the bench.

Former Leeds striker Matt Smith had the first half chance of note but his header was easily held by Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Josh Scowen then tried his luck from 25 yards, but saw his half volley just fly over the crossbar.

It was the visitors again who showed their intent through Smith, but his header sailed just over.

Leeds’ first chance came on 27 minutes following a corner, there was a huge scramble in the visitors penalty area.  Pontus Jansson saw an effort blocked, Kemar Roofe’s shot then hit Caleb Ekuban on the line before Luke Ayling and Kalvin Phillips follow ups were stopped by a crowd of bodies.

Leeds took the lead three minutes later following and Adam Forshaw corner.  Hat-trick hero at Loftus Road Kemar Roofe netted once again, with an overhead kick home following a Kalvin Phillips header.

Tom Pearce then stung the hands of Lumley before Ezgjan Alioski saw a header drop just wide.

Half time: Leeds United 1-0 Queens Park Rangers

Leeds were straight on the attack in the second half and Kalvin Phillips made it two when he picked up a sloppy clearance from Joe Lumley, before shooting past the keeper from the edge of the box.

Luke Freeman almost pulled a goal straight back for the visitors, but his effort from the edge of the box went just wide of Peacock-Farrell’s goal.

Alioski really should have made it three but his close range shot was saved for a corner by Lumley, after a wonderful ball across goal from Roofe.

Leeds head coach Paul Heckingbottom then handed a debut to youngster Edmondson and he came close to netting when he was teed up by Alioski, but his effort deflected just over.

Alioski nearly scored direct from a corner, when his delivery headed towards goal, forcing Lumley to tip the ball over his own crossbar.

The Whites then saw out injury time, to seal a clean sheet and end the season with all three points.
